Information about uncomplicated
urinary tract infections and Proquin XR
Proquin XR is indicated only for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections (acute cystitis) caused by susceptible strains of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Important Safety Information
Adverse reactions determined to be at least possibly drug-related occurring in greater than or equal to 1% of patients were fungal infections (1.6%).
Proquin® XR tablets should be taken whole and never split, crushed, or chewed. Proquin® XR should be taken with the main meal of the day. Proquin® XR is not interchangeable with other ciprofloxacin extended-release (Cipro® XR) or immediate-release (Cipro®) oral formulations.
Proquin XR should be administered at least 4 hours before or 2 hours after antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, sucralfate, VIDEX ® (didanosine) chewable/buffered tablets or pediatric powder, metal cations such as iron, and multivitamin preparations containing zinc.
The safety and effectiveness of Proquin® XR in children, adolescents less than 18 years of age, pregnant women and lactating women have not been established. Proquin® XR is contraindicated in persons with a history of hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or any quinolone, and should be discontinued at the first sign of an allergic reaction.
Serious and fatal reactions have been reported in patients receiving concurrent administration of ciprofloxacin and theophylline. Monitor theophylline levels if concurrent administration cannot be avoided.
